Julia Hacker

Paintings

Artist Statement

While painting, I think about the creative destruction in mother nature, knowing that eventually, it will bring new growth. I draw inspiration from the world around me, rhythmic changes in immediate surroundings, close encounters with the vagaries of human emotion. I challenge my viewer to learn the meditative state of detachment from life challenges

Biography

Julia Hacker was born and raised in Minsk, Belorussia. At 17, after finishing high school, she left home town to study art. Upon receiving a Master’s Degree in Fashion Design from the Institute of Technology, Vitebsk, Belarus, Julia worked as a leading fashion designer at the Minsk Fashion Center. She also ran a monthly spread in a local fashion magazine and created stage costumes for music performers and singers.

In 1990, following the Chernobyl nuclear meltdown, Julia moved to Canada, Toronto. For the last three decades, she is a full-time artist, sharing time between painting and mentoring. Julia utilizes a variety of contemporary mixed media and constantly experiments with styles. Her initial interest in fashion is evident in her richly saturated, well-balanced compositions combining figurative and abstract elements.

The artist enjoyed several solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows and art fairs in Canada and the US. Julia’s paintings are in private and corporate collections all over the world.
