Vitaly Volfson
Photography
Vitaly Volfson’s photography is rooted in observation and memory. He is drawn to places shaped by time, weather, and human presence—walls, streets, harbors, and cities that carry the traces of those who once passed through them. Working primarily in black and white allows him to eliminate distraction and focus on form, light, and atmosphere.
His images are not documents of specific moments, but reflections of an inner landscape marked by solitude, distance, and quiet endurance. Volfson is interested in what remains when movement stops: the weight of architecture, the silence between people, and the sensation of standing alone in a vast, indifferent space. His work is an attempt to make that silence visible.
Vitaly Volfson was born in Minsk, the capital of Belarus. In 1980, he emigrated to the United States, where he established his life and career. He has lived and worked in the U.S. ever since.
